Matsuri Japon 2010 is calling for volunteers!

Every summer, Matsuri Japon, organizes Montreal's only Japanese festival. The event will take place on the August 14th at the Old Port of Montreal. We are currently looking for volunteers who would be willing to give us a hand in making Matsuri Japon 2010 a bright success! If you wish to help, please send a mail to: volunteer@festivaljapon.com. Izakaya Infatuation continues…

Lucky for Torontonians, Vancouver’s very popular Guu Izakaya has made its noisy entrance on Church and Gerrard. Having been fortunate enough to speak with Masaru-san (Guu manager and head chef), I can’t help but wonder if the nightly lineup down the street is for Guu’s great food or for its handsome young cook.

At first glance, Cha Guan La Maison du Thé is rather unassuming but upon entering, you realize you’ve found someplace special. Owner Daniel Ng opened his shop two and a half years ago, in the hopes of bringing Chinese traditional tea drinking culture to a western audience.

Happy Birthday Québec

June is quite an exciting month. First, we’ll get the Formula 1 back on St-Helene Island after its one year absence, which should attract a lot of tourists to Montreal. During this weekend, various activities are organized on Crescent Street and around the downtown area. Moreover, many festivals will begin this month, and will soon take possession of the city streets. We start June with Francofolies, a celebration of French music, soon to be followed by the Jazz Festival, one of most popular festivals downtown.

Festival season!

A long awaited summer has arrived early! After a long and painful winter, blue skies and fresh greenery are what makes this season so full of energy, and this is my favourite time of a year. The fresh air makes everyone feel like going outdoors, a feeling which is probably common in most countries.

Thank you, Father

Following my column last month, with its theme of appreciation towards parents, I wish to write about my father this time, considering that it’s themonth to celebrate father’s day. As a matter of fact, I am unsure about his current whereabouts; I am not even sure if he is still alive. My parents have divorced when I was about 22, and he had decided to leave his family behind for another.
